The Choice Menu Item feature in Event Temple allows you to create menu selections that include multiple options under a single grouped item — for example, a plated dinner with selectable entrées or add-ons. This guide explains how to create one from the Menu Items screen.
1. Navigate to the Menu Items Screen
Go to Settings in the left sidebar.
Under Offerings, select Menus.
Open the specific menu (for example, Food 2025) by clicking its name.
You’ll see a list of existing menu items with their details such as name, submenu, price, and taxes.
Click New Menu Item at the top of the page.
2. Select “Choice Group” Type
In the New Menu Item window, under Type, you’ll see two radio buttons:
Single Item
Choice Group
Select Choice Group.
This designates the new item as a group that contains selectable options instead of a single menu item.
3. Choose the Menu and Sub Menu
The Menu field should default to the menu you are currently viewing (for example, Food 2025).
If necessary, select a different menu using the Open button beside the field.
In the Sub Menu field, choose or type the applicable submenu (such as Dinner or Breakfast).
4. Enter Details
Under the Details section:
**Name ***: Enter the name of the choice group (e.g., “Dinner Entrées” or “Select Your Sides”).
Description: Provide any relevant details or instructions.
You can also add translations in the Secondary Language section if applicable.
Revenue Category: Choose the appropriate revenue category (e.g., Food).
Optionally check Prices entered include taxes if applicable.
Set a Price or Tax Incl. Price if the group has a base charge.
Use the Taxes field to select any taxes or fees that apply.
5. Add Choice Options
In the Choice Group Options section:
Click Add Option to insert a new selectable item (e.g., “Grilled Salmon,” “Prime Rib,” “Vegetarian Pasta”).
Each option can be:
Named
Assigned a price (base or add-on)
Edited, cloned, or deleted using the corresponding buttons.
To organize options, you can add sections (for example, Main Course, Sides) by clicking Add Section.
Use the checkboxes and drag-and-drop controls to reorder or manage options.
6. Configure Extra Option Settings (Optional)
Enable Limit Selection if you want to restrict how many options can be chosen.
When this is active, a warning symbol will appear if too few options are selected during ordering.
7. Save the Choice Menu Item
Once all required information is entered:
Review your settings.
Click Create to save the new Choice Menu Item.
The item will now appear in the Menu Items list under your selected menu.
