Error Message:
When connecting your Outlook email to Event Temple, you may see this error:
535 5.0.0 Authentication Failed
What It Means:
This error usually occurs because Microsoft has temporarily blocked access to your email account. It can happen with any platform (not just Event Temple) that uses SMTP or IMAP to connect to Outlook or Microsoft 365.
Microsoft does this to protect your account from what it considers "unusual sign-in activity."
How to Fix It:
Check Your Outlook Inbox
Log into your Outlook account via a web browser.
Look for an email from Microsoft titled “Microsoft account unusual sign-in activity.”Follow Microsoft’s Instructions
That email contains a link or instructions to review and approve the login attempt. Follow the steps to mark Event Temple as a trusted app.
Reconnect in Event Temple
After you’ve approved access, return to Settings > Email in Event Temple.
Click Authorize again to reconnect your email.
Still Not Working?
Ensure your Microsoft admin hasn’t restricted app connections.
If you're using a company-managed email address, your IT team may need to approve the connection.
