How to Use Opera's Changes Log to Troubleshoot Pickup Discrepancies

When pickup counts don't match between Event Temple and Opera, Opera's Changes Log shows every change made to a block, who made it, and whether it came from Event Temple or a user.

Overview

If pickup numbers or room counts look different between Event Temple and Opera, Opera's Changes Log is your first stop. It records every change made to a block — including who made the change and whether it came from a user or from Event Temple.

How to find the Changes Log

  1. In Opera Cloud, open the group block in question.

  2. Click the I Want To menu (the arrow icon at the top right of the block).

  3. Select Changes Log.

You'll see a list of every modification made to the block, including:

  • What field was changed (e.g., room count, rate, method of payment)

  • The old value and the new value

  • The date and time of the change

  • Who or what made the change — a specific Opera user, or Event Temple

How to interpret the log

  • If the change shows a user's name: A hotel staff member made the change directly in Opera. Check with that person or their manager to understand why.

  • If the change shows Event Temple: The change was pushed from Event Temple. Log in to Event Temple and check the group's activity history to find out which user triggered the update.

  • If you don't see the change in the log: The discrepancy may be a display or sync timing issue. Try refreshing the group in Event Temple and checking again after the next nightly sync.

Tip

When escalating a pickup discrepancy to Event Temple Support, it helps to include a screenshot of the relevant Changes Log entry — specifically showing the old value, new value, and source. This speeds up the investigation significantly.
