How Can I Copy an Existing Document?

Documents/Multiple Documents: Clone, Copy, Duplicate, Reuse, Move

Updated over a week ago

Cloning a document in Event Temple allows you to create a new copy of an existing document. This is especially helpful if you need to reuse a layout, template, or previous version without altering the original file.

Steps to Clone a Document

  1. Open the Booking

    • Navigate to the Bookings tab from the left-hand menu.

    • Open the booking that contains the document you want to clone.

  2. Go to the Documents Tab

    • Select the Documents tab within the booking.

    • You’ll see a list of all documents associated with that booking.

  3. Open the Document

    • Click on the name of the document you’d like to clone.

    • The document will open in a new window.

  4. Select “Actions” → “Clone”

    • In the top-right corner, click the Actions button.

    • Choose Clone from the dropdown menu.

    • A new draft version of the document will be created automatically.

  1. Edit and Save the New Document

    • The cloned document will open in Draft status.

    • Update the content as needed (text, merge fields, layout, etc.).

    • Click Save when finished.

Important Notes

  • The cloned version will not copy signatures or completion status — it starts as a new Draft.

  • You can rename the cloned document to reflect its new purpose.

  • Cloning is useful when creating similar contracts, BEOs, or proposals for repeat clients or recurring events.

From Documents List Tab:

  1. Locate the document you want to clone

    • You’ll see a list of all documents in this booking (for example, Group Resume, Banquet Event Order, Contract, etc.).

  2. Click on the document name

    • This opens the document in a new page.

  3. Click “Actions” in the top-right corner

    • A dropdown menu will appear.

  4. Select “Clone”

    1. A new Draft copy of that document will be created automatically under the same booking.

      • The cloned version will appear in your Documents list as “Copy of [Document Name]”.

  5. Open the cloned document

    • You can now edit, rename, or re-share it as needed.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • The cloned document does not copy signatures or completed status — it always starts as a Draft.

  • You can safely edit the new copy without affecting the original.

  • Cloning is ideal when you want to reuse layouts or content for similar events or repeat clients.
