How do Revenue Category changes affect posting line items, and what are the workarounds?

Learn how mandatory Revenue Categories affect line item postings in Event Temple, why "None" is no longer an option, and how to use event cloning to post negative amounts for adjustments.

In Event Temple, the Revenue Category field is now mandatory for all line items. This means that it is no longer possible to create line items with the Revenue Category set to "None." This change was implemented to improve reporting accuracy and ensure consistent categorization of revenue data.

Implications for Users

The mandatory Revenue Category requirement affects how users can manage and adjust line items. Previously, users could leave the Revenue Category field blank (set to "None") for certain postings, but this is no longer an option. As a result, users must now select an appropriate Revenue Category for every line item they create or adjust.

Workarounds for Adjustments

If you need to correct a previously posted item (e.g., to Mews) and cannot select "None" as the Revenue Category, you can use the following workaround:

  1. Clone the event that contains the original menu or line item.

  2. Open the cloned event and change the relevant item's price to a negative amount (e.g., -365).

  3. Post the negative line item to Mews from the Line Items tab. This process offsets the original charge while adhering to the requirement to select a Revenue Category. It ensures that adjustments are accurately reflected in your records without violating the new mandatory field rule.

Best Practices for Booking Cloning and Revenue Management

  • Always ensure that a valid Revenue Category is selected for all line items to maintain accurate reporting.

  • Use the cloning feature to make adjustments or corrections to previously posted items, as this allows for precise modifications without altering the original event.

  • Regularly review your Revenue Categories to ensure they align with your reporting and operational needs. By understanding and adapting to these changes, you can effectively manage your bookings and revenue data in Event Temple.
