Answer:
Menu Items are ordered in different ways, depending on:
The Source of the Menu Item Element
As well as the Display Options selected
Menu Item source set to Booking or Event
Not grouping items by Event or Event Start Date
When sorting by serving time - items are first sorted by their drag-n-drop position, then their serving date/time, then their event’s start date/time, then their event’s end date/time
When NOT sorting by serving time - Items are first sorted by their drag-n-drop position, then their event’s start date/time, then their event’s end date/time
When sorting by serving time
Grouping items by Event / Event Start Date
Same sorting as above applies, this just controls whether the items are displayed under their respective event and/or Date
Menu Item source set to ‘Invoice'
When sorting by serving time - items are first sorted by their drag-n-drop position and then by their serving date/time
When NOT sorting by serving time - items are sorted by their drag-n-drop position on the invoice
Grouping items by Event / Event Date
same sorting as above applies, this just controls whether the items are displayed under their respective event and/or Date

If you are using Serving Times, you can also choose to sort the items by their serving time by editing the Menu Items Document Element

To update the order, simply click & drag the items into the desired order as shown below, please note to change the Menu Item order in this way it must be done from the event itself and cannot be done on the Document.
