When viewing Documents, it's possible to use filters & columns to customize Views. The Column highlighted in blue represents the order of the list.
To view a Document list sorted by Event Date:
On the left-hand side select Documents
Use Filters to view your Document Selection
Modify your Columns accordingly, ensuring Event Start Date is Selected
Click on Event Start Date
(Optional) Save View
