Germany food menu tax update. How to update VAT in Germany 2026

Updated yesterday

Note: Deadline 29th December 2025

An Admin or Regular Event Temple User needs to confirm latest 29th December 2025 at 4PM, if you have not confirmed by this date we will not update your Account.

As you may already know, the German VAT will change from 19% to 7%, effective 1 January 2026. To ensure your operations continue smoothly, we want to guide you on how this update should be handled in our system and what steps may be required on your end.

Key Details:

  1. The tax update applies only to FOOD Menu Items.

  2. All Food Menu items must be correctly mapped to the Revenue Group “Food”.

  3. This mapping needs to be completed so our team can run a script that automatically updates all food items currently charged with 19% VAT to the new 7% VAT for all items consumed from 1 January 2026 onward.

  4. No action is required for non-food items—their current VAT rates will remain unchanged.

  5. Deadline: All mappings must be completed by 29 December 2025 to ensure the correct update.

How to update your Menu Items to the Revenue Group “Food”:

  1. Go to Settings → Fields → Revenue Categories and ensure all food-related Revenue Categories are linked to the Revenue Group Food.

  2. Go to Offerings → Menu and make sure each Food Menu Item is linked to a Revenue Category that belongs to the Revenue Group Food.

Once this is completed, our team will update the VAT on all items in the “Food” revenue group from 19% to 7%.
